Shelby Kahr (b. 1996) was born in Door County, Wisconsin and was raised in a God-fearing home. By fusing precarious perspectives, found materials, and manipulating color fields, Kahr is interested in the gaps between reality and artifice. Using rendering techniques that skew perspectival conventions, her work creates a narrative complexity that probes the structure of subject-positions on the verge of collapse. With this approach, she examines the gap between the end of the world and the subsequent morning after: what is left when things fall apart?

Kahr is currently pursuing her MFA in painting at Hunter College in New York City. When not "painting", she focuses her time on experimental research studies, cognitive doomsday prepping, and the devil. 

Daughter of Jayne and Mike, she is a Virgo sun, Sagittarius Moon, and Libra Rising. Her human design alignment is a Manifesting Generator and her attachment style is Anxious-Avoidant. Birth chart available upon request.
